In an almost hidden spot, just off one of the main drags, lies what's left of a mini golf course. Except for some overgrowth and an easy-to-miss tiny sign at the open entrance saying "keep out", the place stands pretty much intact.

Of course the sign was too small for me to read (!) so I climbed around the "volcano" and was able to get this shot of the little lighthouse. There's something really sad about deserted places like this, and the b&w seemed to suit its mood.

The economy has definitely effected Myrtle Beach, as primarily a tourist spot. Truely a shame.

This is a good composition. You have picked a good time of day to shoot it, most likely late in the afternoon. There are not a lot of distractions in the background, as a matter of fact the tops of the trees in the background create a nice line, almost an 'S' curve from top left to lower right. The two primary elements, the palm and lighthouse, are well positioned and there are some interesting things going on in the background with the ropes and posts. If you have the software, I would increase the contrast a bit; you lack a place in the image that is true black or white. Also, the position of the tree and the light is almost too perfect. I think the image would improve with a bit of imbalance, or as artists call it, creative tension.

Thanks for looking, everyone. I appreciate your observations. Fibonacci, thanks for your detailed comments and suggestions. (I use CS4 and a bag full of filters!) I'll try to get back there again soon and do some more shooting before someone steals the lighthouse or it gets destroyed.
